He took you for a lady
He took you far too soon
He took you now the tides are
splashing red across the moon
But he won't be your Jesus when he goes
There's a thousand mad musicians
Playing at your feet
They worship at the altar
So now the night's complete
But he won't be your Jesus when he goes
He won't light the fire that's been
smothered in your bed
There's too many ashes on your sheets
Romeo's for hire
Juliet's instead
But it won't really matter cause it's over
The bells are tolling midnight
There's jasmine in the air
The broken hearts are shattered
Scattered everywhere
He won't be your Jesus when he goes, oh no
He won't be your Jesus when he goes
