I rode the train to Glasgow to even up a score
No matter how much luck you can have
You always look for more
Butt all the luck you can plunder won't always cinch the deal
I only got to Glasgow just to hear the church bells peal

I met a girl in Holland
Velvet skin she had
I couldn't understand her but it wasn't all that bad
With Eye communication and some kind of ESP
I met her in the morning and now she wants to marry me

chorus:
so give the dog his one good day
And sly Ole Nick his due
I'm gonna shake the road dust off my feet
And roll back home and stay with you

Now the rows of fine old houses condemned to turned to dust
They need a space to build a place that's bound to rot and rust
Or build a high-rise palace where kings can pay the fee
But the rows of fine old houses are consigned to history

I wonder who said it
That the more things change, the more they stay the same
Now I can't forget it
I'm going back to from where I came
A man, he told me one time
God was his own best friend
But he only loved the people who sent money in to him
That made me kind of nervous, as I didn't have a cent
But all the money you pile upon the earth
In heaven won't make a dent

chorus:
so give the dog his one good day
And sly Ole Nick his due
I'm gonna shake the road dust off my feet
And roll back home and stay with you
